A financial backer of the proposed $429 million Lawrence County casino and racetrack is asking the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to withdraw his casino license application.
Stephen Hilbert and his companies, MH Investors Gaming and MH Equity Managing Member II, petitioned the board in April to withdraw their applications.
Hilbert and MH will still supply funding for the Centaur Gaming project as part of a $1 billion financing packaging Centaur secured in October.
However, Hilbert will relinquish the option to become a part-owner in Valley View Downs.
According to the petition, Hilbert and the companies “do not now and will not in the future hold any equity interest in Centaur or Valley View.”
Representatives at M.H. Equity could not be reached immediately for comment.
Gaming Control Board spokesman Richard McGarvey said the board has not yet considered the petition and, as of Tuesday, was not scheduled to do so at its next meeting — the public hearing Thursday in Lawrence County where Centaur will present the Valley View Downs plans.

LAS VEGAS—Police say an autopsy should show whether a baby was alive before its body was found dead in the trash at a women’s restroom at a Las Vegas Strip casino.Las Vegas police Lt. Lewis Roberts says investigators are trying to figure out who would abandon a newborn child, alive or dead, on Mother’s Day.
The body of the baby boy was found about 9:40 p.m. Sunday, wrapped in a hotel gift bag and a pillow case in a restroom near a bank of elevators at the Excalibur hotel-casino.
Investigators are trying to determine if the mother gave birth to the child somewhere in the casino, or if the child was left in the restroom by someone who came in from the street.
Roberts says police are checking hotel records and reviewing casino security video.
But he says detectives may need a lucky break—like the mother coming forward, or someone who noticed something wrong calling in a tip.

DETROIT (AP)– The Michigan Gaming Control Board says Detroit’s Greektown Casino has less than a month to show why the state shouldn’t force the sale of the cash-strapped casino.
The board on Tuesday set the deadline for Greektown Casino, which hasn’t met state-mandated financial goals.
The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News report it’s unclear whether a deal announced last week to sell a 40 percent stake in the casino will go through swiftly.
The casino says that deal will help fix its problems. Entertainment Interests Group LLC of Bloomfield Hills signed a purchase agreement to invest $100 million in the struggling gambling operation.
The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians is the majority owner of Greektown Holdings LLC.

SAN JACINTO, Calif. (AP) — Deputies shot and killed two people who had opened fire near an Indian casino in Southern California and had fired at a sheriff’s helicopter as officers chased them into the hills of the reservation.
Riverside County officers showed up at the Soboba Indian reservation around 6:20 p.m. Monday in response to a call from guards who said they were taking fire at a security kiosk, authorities said.
A man and a woman attacked the deputies with assault rifles, then drove off into the hills, Sgt. Dean Spivacke said. The suspects exchanged gunfire with officers pursuing them and shot at a helicopter that was following them, authorities said.
The suspects’ vehicle broke down, and SWAT officers confronted them. More shooting ensued, and the hour-long gunbattle ended when both suspects were killed, Spivacke said. Authorities did not release their identities.
No one else was hurt.
Tribal chairman Robert Salgado warned tribal residents to stay inside after the gunfight began.
“They’ve got the SWAT team out here,” Salgado said. “They’re probably going to shoot first and ask questions later.”
It was the second fatal shooting by deputies at the reservation in less than a week. On Thursday, deputies killed 26-year-old tribal member Eli Morillo after he fired at them with an assault rifle.
